Notes on bed availability in St Luke’s Home
Private Beds
St Luke’s Home has 121 beds in total; 16 of which are private, i.e. the resident pays the current full fee for the bed on a month in advance basis, less any HSE Subvention paid to the Home on his/her behalf. Completion of one of our application forms will place the applicant on a waiting list in the Home for one of these 16 beds only.
Contracted ‘Public’ Beds
The remaining 105 beds are contracted to the HSE – Southern Area, and admission to these beds is as follows:
1. A person living in the community should seek referral by their GP to a consultant geriatrician of the HSE who will carry out an assessment of their needs.
2. A person already in hospital should seek referral by their consultant to the geriatrician.
3. The geriatrician should then be requested to submit this assessment to the Age Care Evaluation Team of the HSE for banding.
4. Once the person is thus banded, their name is then given to the HSE Continuing Care section for appropriate placement.
5. Thereafter enquiries on availability of, or waiting list for one of St Luke’s Home contracted beds should be directed to the relevant placement officer of the HSE at 021-4921835/4921845.
General
St Luke’s Home does not maintain a waiting list for contracted beds, and an application form should only be returned directly to the Home if application is being made for a private bed.
Simultaneous and separate applications to the HSE for a public bed and to the Home for a private bed may be made at the applicant’s discretion, but our application form only covers the private bed at the Home.
Applicants who have been approved for ‘subvention’ by the HSE should apply for a privately funded bed, as subvention is a grant of monetary assistance towards the cost of funding a private bed in a nursing home, and is payable by the HSE directly to the home involved.
