Christmas Bash

On Saturday night, 22nd December last, I put on my best party dress and headed out to the CHRISTMAS BASH at the Trident Hotel, Kinsale. I strolled in with around 80 other young people, mostly aged between 16 and 25. It was to be an unforgettable night.
It started out simply enough with plenty of banter and a tasty meal. As the night progressed, we heard some great music from Driven, a band from West Cork; apparently it was their debut gig! A little later on, the D.J., Eric Callender, took the night into its element. (Eric is involved with a Youth Council based in the Limerick area.) A little encouragement from Ben Johnson, Parish Youth Worker in Ross Union, and the chance to win some spot prizes, soon had us all dancing like lawnmowers, shopping trolleys and other extraordinary creations of his vivid imagination. There were some interesting interpretations! After a while, the crowd showed off some of their own moves. Flashes from cameras – as we attempted to record the night’s events – and crazy disco lights all added to the fun and the sense that this was a very special night. When it all drew to a close, I could hardly stand up (something to do with my 3inch high heels perhaps?!).
It was a sensational night, organized superbly by the Cork, Cloyne and Ross Diocesan Youth Council (CDYC) and headed up by Diane Ross and James Fleury. It was embraced to the full by everyone there. It had all the necessary ingredients: a safe and festive location (many thanks to the Trident), great people and as the posters said: good food, good tunes, good times.
